Billing

Fees, Medicare and Accounts

In recognition of the increased costs and complexity of providing medical services in a rural area, Mansfield Medical Clinic is a private billing practice.  Services are not bulk-billed to Medicare Australia.  Practitioners may elect to bulk bill or reduce patient fees at the time of service. This is entirely at the discretion of the individual Practitioner. More information on private billing has been included at the end of this section.

For most services, a gap payment will be charged above the Medicare rebate amount.  Fees are payable at the time of consultation. Through a direct connection to Medicare via HIC Claims Online, your Medicare claim can be processed on the day, and a rebate deposited to your nominated bank account within 48 hours.

A discounted fee is charged for Pensioners/Health Care Card holders.  If you have difficulty paying our fees at any time, please discuss this with your doctor.  Your health is our priority.

The following is an indication of fees. Patient billing is dependent upon the services and consumables required and the applicable Medicare item numbers for those services. Payment on the day is requested. Please note Medicare Rebates change from time to time so the amounts below are only an indication.

Consultation fees vary depending on duration and complexity. For example, a standard consultation is usually sufficient for 1 medical issue/condition and a longer appointment is usually required for more involved medical care. Additional fees may apply for procedures and certain tests (i.e. ECG). If an account is not paid in full at the time of consultation, a $10 administration fee may be be applied. Allied health and gym fees are available on request.

Script Clinics (depending on type of prescription and whether you have been to the clinic recently) are privately billed ($36.00, face to face, Medicare Rebate $20.05) with Health Care Card holders/Pensioners bulk billed.

Please note we do not accept payment by American Express.  â€‹

Why we cannot bulk bill everyone

From 1 November 2025, the Government’s new bulk billing incentive rewards short, rushed consults.  We believe your health deserves time and quality, not quick medicine.

X Bulk billing does not cover the real cost of care

X Medicare will pay more for very short visits

X This pushes doctors to rush patients through

We will remain private billing so we can:

* Give you the time you deserve

* Provide safe, thorough care

* Stay sustainable for the future

We want to:

* Offer continuity of care from GPs, Nurses and Allied Health professionals who know you

* Remain locally owned, a business employing locals who live in and love our community

The Medicare rebate does not cover the true cost of providing quality medical care. We encourage you to talk to your local Federal Member if you find that the Medicare rebate does not meet your needs.
