Dr Melissa Reed
Family Medicine, Alpine Sports Medicine, Aviation Medicine (Designated Aviation Medical Examiner),
Dr Melissa Reed studied Medicine at Adelaide University after going to school in Geelong and later, Melbourne. After graduating from University, she worked at Flinders Medical Centre and participated in a pilot program for trainee doctors to work in rural settings. A three month term in the small town of Jamestown in South Australia, sparked an interest in rural medicine that remains today.
After gaining experience in a wide variety of places, performing a variety of medical jobs from Geelong to Scotland, she returned to Victoria in 2003 to start General Practice training. Moving from London to Yarrawonga and then to Mansfield, she planned to work in Mansfield for one year. Sixteen years, one husband, two daughters and ten acres later … she's still here!
What first sparked her interest in rural practice whilst in Jamestown, was the wide variety of conditions a rural GP needs to deal with. To this day it is this variety that continues to interest her. From caring for young children, to skiing injuries and other trauma, to family medicine and end of life care, a rural general practitioner manages it all.
In her leisure time Melissa enjoys cooking, reading, going to the gym and gardening on her small rural property. She also enjoys getting away into the bush - whether locally, in other parts of Victoria or further afield.
